A different way to know the Rapanui culture is by participating in some of the ancestral experiences that many companies offer. These experiences range from the possibility of having a photo session with typical costumes in the most emblematic places of Easter Island, to perform weddings (marriages) according to ancient rites rapanui.
Body painting or Takona is until today one of the most important features of the dances and rituals Rapanui, like tattoos, each drawing and color had a meaning that identified the person wearing it, his clan or indicate its status. Thanks to these ancestral experiences, participants can learn firsthand these meanings and understand better the culture of the island.
As for the ancient marriages, they are arranged to suit each couple, and they can range from simple rites to full ceremonies with photo shoots, videos, and traditional curanto or “Umu” which in this case has a special meaning.
