Although there are still four years left for its release, one of the new animated Disney movies is already calling the media attention because it could lead the company for the first time to one of the most exotic scenaries in the world: Rapa Nui or Easter Island.

It’s “Moana”, a film that will be released in 2018 at the hands of Ron Clements and John Musker, the minds behind “The Little Mermaid”, “Aladdin” and “The Princess and the Frog.” And while the story is just beginning to be defined, it seems the main argument leads to the protagonist on a journey through the Polynesian islands of the South Pacific, including Rapa Nui.

“This is an epic or even mythical adventure occurred about 2,000 years ago, in a series of islands in the South Pacific. Its protagonist is Moana Waialiki, the only daughter of a chief in an ancient family of sailors. She’s like some kind of nerd, but a nerd of navigation and when her family needs help, she embarks on an epic journey. There will be other characters who are demigods and spirits that we take of mythology “, they explained to the specialized site Bleeding Cool.

In fact the name of the girl, Moana, is a Polynesian word shared with Rapa Nui dialect which means “ocean.”

Another point to address is the animation technique used in the film, but both Clements and Musker discarded using the innovative hybrid technique between computational and pencil drawing that was seen in the Oscar-winning short, Paperman.

Regarding the soundtrack, the composer Mark Mancina, who had taken the reins of the orchestra in “The Lion King”, “Tarzan” and “Brother Bear”, will be in charge of the music.
